ETHIO-ERITREAN HISTORY AND THE ETHIO-ERITREAN WAR

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK

Ethio-Eritrean History sheds light on the circumstance which led to the independence of Eritrea, the post-independence bilateral relations as well as the specific cause and events which sparked off the conflict of may 1998.

it augments the discussion by taking a critical look at the post-independence bilateral relations of the countries and providing detailed accounts on the immediate political and socio-economic events which led to the co0nfilct and war.

Ethio-Eritrean History also provides a comprehensive historical background on the conflict. it does this by highlighting the relationship between the two areas from the colonial period to the present with emphasis on the second half of the 20 th century. The epochs discussed include: the colonial historical period(1890-1952) and the federation years(1952-1961).This is then followed by a dispassionate and informed review of the period of Eritrean liberation struggle (1961-1993)with greater emphasis on the periods of defacto statehood(1991-1993),early statehood(1991-1998),conflict and war (1998-2000)and the post war period upto2004and beyond.

Further, Ethio-Eritrean History takes a critical look at the various mediation efforts that were made as well as the battles that were fought to retrieve Ethiopian territories. it also assesses the regional implications and other consequences of the war and the  lessons of the two countries and the prospects of peace and stability in the Horn Africa.
