Terrorism
is a crime as murder is a crime. Terrorism is even more heinous in that
it targets civilians. The fact that terrorism is perpetrated by poor
people from the Third World, and the fact that it is rooted in economic
exploitation and oppression does not justify its occurrence. Terrorism
has to be stamped out wherever it exists.

Overview
National and
international conflicts are at the root of terrorism. According to Joshua
S. Goldstein, conflicts can be divided into two classes: conflicts of
interest and conflicts of ideas. Conflicts of interest include
territorial disputes, control of government and economic conflicts.
Conflicts of ideas include ethnic conflict, religious conflict, and
ideological conflict. This paper analyzes how these conflicts lead to
terrorism.
