THE AFRICAN QUEST

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE BOOK

The Africa Quest which has just been released by the EIIPD and HADADis the outcome of some years of in-depth research on Africa's developmental challenges. it begins with the drums of freedom which heralded the first wave of African liberation and moves on to examine the various sub-regional and regional political and economic integration efforts such as those of COMESA, SADC, ECOWAS, ECCAS and IGAD.

Further, the book examines the impact of globalization on African economies. it then moves on to examine the various economic strategies and programs which were introduced by the World Bank  and IMF and the alternatives  put forth by the ECA to make them appropriate and relevant to the African reality.

The Africa Quest also takes up other externally influenced themes such as the NEPAD vision and programs and the issue of resource mobilization which is impacted by declining  ODA and FDI and rising debt burden. then,it moves on to examine Africa's other developmental and socio-economic challenges including those of refugees, conflicts and security related issues governance and corruption, etc.

In addition, the book looks at the social malaise of Africa such those caused by epidemics like malaria and pandemics like HIV/ADIS which afflict large segments of the population of many Africa countries at present.

In a review of the book Prof. Ali Mazrui of New York and Bingham Universities commented-Prof. Kinfe Abraham's latest scholarly contribution on Africa History, Politics, Economic and international relations is an invaluable and rich addition to Afro-centric historiography. Unlike other previous books on African History, the African Quest is a profound contribution with a bias of political, economic and social history in which not only the African leaders but also the African peoples occupy center stage, both as agents of change and victims of underdevelopment.
